This bulkhead was a steel door mounted on concrete which was at or below grade. In order to raise the grade, form boards were built and concrete poured to raise the foundation by approximately 6 inches. The concrete for this job was mixed by hand. Because all of our doors are custom built, we can adjust the height of the door accounting for the increase in the foundation. When form boards were removed, foundation plates and the new bulkhead were installed. The door and foundation plates come standard with red-oxide primer. We recommend painting with a high quality, oil based paint.
The rain gutter on this bulkhead was completely rusted through, other areas weren't far behind, and the paint was in bad shape. We were able to replace the aging bulkhead with a new custom-sized, custom-painted entry. Several standard colors are offered as an additional option, and custom color-matched paint can be done.
This Bow, NH customer had a bulkhead cellar door that was leaking and rusted. They decided to give us a call to asses the issue.
The Fix: We removed the rusted door and installed a new custom designed bulkhead that increased the height by several inches. Foundation plates were used to cover edges of concrete foundation to protect concrete from ice and snow and also provides a level surface to install the new bulkhead.
